Dave Schuurman, Chairman
Dave is the founder and Chairman of Beneficial Reuse Management, which he launched in 1999 after a highly successful 20-year career in the environmental services industry. Dave had previously been President of Growth Environmental, an environmental consulting firm he founded in 1993 and, prior to that, Chairman of SETCO Environmental, a waste transportation and treatment firm he helped found in 1979. Dave received a degree from Trinity College. Dave currently leads the company's marketing and new product development team.
Bob Spoerri, President and CEO
Bob has been involved in building, managing and leading high performance businesses for more than 30 years. He spent over 20 years at LaSalle Partners, a real estate services firm in Chicago, including 10 years as Chief Operating Officer and President. Under his leadership, the firm grew to national and international prominence and through merger with four other companies, created the firm Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE:JLL), now the world's leading real estate services and investment management firm. Bob subsequently served as CEO of two other businesses; Comro.com, a company in the real estate technology business and Mapeley PLC, a London based property investment and Development Company. Bob received an MBA degree from Harvard Business School and a B.S. from Indiana University.
Paul Koziar, Director of Regulatory Compliance
Prior to joining the Beneficial Reuse Management team in 2006, Paul Koziar spent more than 30 years at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) managing programs in air, water and solid waste management including developing and implementing regulatory policies for electric utilities, foundries and pulp and paper mills. For 8 years before leaving the WDNR Paul managed the industrial byproducts beneficial use program for the state and the beneficial use rules developed under this program have been used to model other state programs around the U.S. Paul has made presentations on a national basis and has been a guest presenter at university and private forums discussing the use and environmental issues of beneficially using industrial byproducts.
Andy Gilbert, PhD, Chief Technical Officer
Dr. F. Andrew Gilbert, Jr. joined Beneficial Reuse Management following a 31-year career at Stora Enso and its predecessor Consolidated Papers, Inc. Following 8 years in Consolidated's R&D Department, Andy spent 23 years in the Corporate Environmental Group, providing company wide support in the areas of solid waste management and wastewater treatment. He was active in working with regulatory agencies in the development of environmental rules and regulations and developed, implemented and managed beneficial reuse programs including the first, and still largest, paper mill sludge landspreading program in Wisconsin. Andy received his undergraduate degree from Lawrence University and his Masters Degree and Doctorate from the Institute of Paper Chemistry, both located in Appleton, WI.
Jason Sparks, P.E., Director of Operations
Jason oversees the BRM project management team and is responsible for assuring zero project defects, compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, and achievement of project profitability targets. He also leads the implementation of new technology for the project management team to continue to increase efficiencies. Before joining BRM, Jason was a Development Manager for First Industrial Realty Trust and oversaw acquisitions, development, build-to-suits, and lease negotiations in their Real Estate Development department. Prior to First Industrial, Jason was a Project Manager with Thornton-Tomasetti Structural Engineers. He worked on the renovation of Soldier Field as well as Miller Park, Wrigley Field, and Trump Tower. Jason is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP). He received his MBA in Real Estate Finance from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
Ron Chamberlain, Director of FGD Gypsum Programs
Ron founded earthANEW, a company specifically focused on marketing byproduct Gypsum for agricultural use, in 2006. Beneficial Reuse Management acquired earthANEW in 2009 and Ron joined the BRM team to direct the FGD Gypsum Program for Utility customers. His 38 years experience in the Agriculture Industry includes management positions at Ag Spectrum Company, United Agricultural Products, Super Crost Seeds, BASF USA and BASF Europe. Ron has a BS in Agricultural Mechanization from Purdue University.
Dan Schuurman, Director of Project Implementation
Dan has been a part of the Beneficial Reuse Management team since 1999 and was involved with its first project. He had prior experience in general contracting and as a project manager. Since joining Beneficial Reuse Management, Dan has coordinated dozens of projects of all types and sizes and has helped develop the company's project management process. He became Regional Manager for the Wisconsin Region in 2007 and he also has responsibility for training of new BRM Project Managers. Dan graduated from Westmont College.
Jeff Ulrey, Director of Coal Byproducts
Jeffrey H. Ulrey joined the Beneficial Reuse Management team in November of 2007, bringing over 25 years of construction materials experience and dedication to sustainable development to our business. Jeff spent 9 years at Lafarge North America, one of the world's largest building materials producers, where he was most recently a Regional Technical Specialist focused on developing new markets and uses for fly ash, bottom ash, wet bottom boiler slag, and expanded lightweight slag. Prior to Lafarge, Jeff worked in sales and R&D for the American Fly Ash Co. (AFA), a company that was a pioneer in the beneficial reuse of coal combustion byproducts. At AFA, he led teams and handled projects utilizing CCB's in agriculture, aggregates, environmental remediation, sand blasting grit, drainage media, soil stabilization, road building and structural fills. Jeff studied Construction Technology at Indiana State University and Purdue University.
Trevor Schuurman, Director of Project Origination
Since joining Beneficial Reuse Management in 2000, Trevor has been successful at creating markets for industrial byproducts and discovering new project opportunities. He is responsible for working with new industrial partners to evaluate their needs and to create the initial pipeline of projects for reuse of their byproducts. Trevor graduated from Westmont College with a degree in Business and English.
